Women from Around U.S. Gather for
Leadership Training
ST. LOUIS, MO — Around 200
Lutheran Women in Mission from all over the United States will discover that “To
Everything There is a Season … A Time To Lead” at a leadership training
conference October 24-26, 2008, at the Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel in St. Louis,
Missouri. At the Assembly of Leaders event, participants will hear inspirational
and informative speakers address the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League’s
current primary targets and goals: Christ-Centered Living, Telling the Good
News, Partnering for Diversity and Building Up Our Sisters in Christ.
Each of the LWML’s 40
districts will send new leaders to be trained at the event, which will include
fellowship, singing and activities that will help participants experience the
diversity within the organization. Speakers include Christian author Jane Fryar,
former LWML Presidents Ida Mall and Virginia Von Seggern, LCMS World Mission
representative Kristy Grannis, and LWML Committee Chairmen Melissa Salomon and
Katy Gifford.
In addition to the four
main sessions, each of the five departments of the LWML, made up of committees
and task forces, will give presentations with leadership tips and handouts
related to their areas of expertise: Human Care, Gospel Outreach, Communication,
Christian Life and Servant Resources. Assembly of Leaders participants will be
asked to implement a plan to share what they learn with the women of their own
districts, in an effort to further develop more leaders to “Serve the Lord with
Gladness” all over the nation.
The Lutheran Women’s
Missionary League (LWML) is the official women’s auxiliary of The Lutheran
Church—Missouri Synod. For over 65 years, the LWML has focused on affirming each
woman’s relationship with Christ, encouraging and equipping women to live out
their Christian lives in active mission ministries and to support global
missions.

Announcing A Revived Missions Product:
The “New” PowerPak
Because
of its past popularity and success, the LWML Mission Advocacy and Grants
Committee (MAGs) was asked to reintroduce a product that will be familiar to
some - the PowerPak.
The PowerPak is a collection of eighteen distinct
8-1/2” x 11” mission grant descriptions, each with a picture and prayer. These
mission grants were adopted at our 2007 Sioux Falls Convention.
The PowerPak is offered to encourage mission
grant support and participation. Each page in the PowerPak may be printed,
shared, and distributed. Place on fellowship hall bulletin
boards, use for society meetings, create themes for school bulletin boards and
in Sunday School displays; use during personal prayer time and devotions.
This colorful collection is now available as a
free download!

LWML Sunday materials mailed; orders coming in
ST. LOUIS, MO -- The Rev. Dr. Robert Roegner, Executive
Director of the LCMS World Mission, has authored the "LWML Sunday" materials
that have been mailed recently. He used the text from Luke 24:31-32 to develop
the worship service, sermon and outline, and children's sermon for "Opened
Eyes…Hearts Ablaze!", the theme for this special Sunday. LWML
societies and pastors of our LCMS congregations were recipients of this mailing.
The LWML has designated the first Sunday in October as the
Celebration Sunday for LWML; however, these materials can be used on any Sunday
to fit your church calendar.
Other items included in the packet were a banner pattern for
the LWML Sunday logo, a 2009 Portland LWML Convention flyer, information on new
products that are available from LWML, and the LWML Sunday 2008 Order Form for
items such as blank bulletins, pre-printed bulletins, the Worship Service CD,
and other things that can enhance the LWML Sunday celebration.
Something new this year will be a short video clip that will
be included on the Worship Service CD. It will feature President Janice Wendorf
and can be used to inform the congregation about LWML and its ministry.
A FREE GIFT is available for LWML Sunday orders that are
postmarked by August 1, 2008 -- you may choose either a purple cloth tote bag
with a stenciled LWML logo on it or the purple stationery tote, while supplies
last.
In addition, a FREE packet of the new mustard seeds "With This
Ring" is available for the pastor with the purchase of LWML bulletins or the
CD. This packet of mustard seeds replaces the older version "I Thee Wed", which
is still being requested by pastors today! Check the appropriate box on the
LWML Sunday 2008 Order Form.
Norine Stumpf, LWML Office Business Administrator, reports
that orders are already coming in. Please place all orders by September 1,
2008, to ensure availability and on-time delivery.
